Our EMS Division comprises 4 ambulance-based modes of transport: Specialty Care Transport (SCT), Advanced Life Support (ALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Critical Care Transport (CCT, co-managed by Bon Secours Mercy Health in Youngstown, Ohio). Additionally, we operate a small Wheelchair Van Division (WC) to serve our hospital clients and private pay patient appointments.
The choice of transport mode is based on the patient’s clinical requirements in accordance with our protocols. The Communications and Dispatch Center collects HIPAA-protected information under our Business Associate agreements to determine the appropriate crew and unit based on the level of care hierarchy. Crew members are assigned levels based on their certification and internal training, such as ALS I to ALS II. High-performing clinicians are selected for advanced training programs when applicable.
Our clinical services include Wheelchair transport, Basic Life Support – Level I, Basic Life Support – Level II, Advanced Life Support – Level I, Advanced Life Support – Level II, and Advanced Life Support – Level III (ALS III certifies individuals for Specialty Care Transport (SCT) needs). Our ALS III providers undergo rigorous selection criteria, extensive training, and testing to operate at this elite level. ALS III providers are capable of providing Critical Care-level care without an RN onboard, depending on the patients needs in terms of equipment and personnel.
Physicians Ambulance stands out as the sole private ambulance service in the State of Ohio to independently provide a Paramedic III program.
Designed for top-tier Paramedics, graduates of the Paramedic III training program can seamlessly progress to roles such as Critical Care Paramedic, Stroke Team Paramedic, or even Flight Paramedic. While these specialized services are not currently available at Physicians Ambulance, achieving this prestigious status opens doors to tackle complex calls and pursue future advancement opportunities. At Physicians Ambulance, we support your career advancement by offering opportunities to pursue higher certification levels, such as Wheelchair Van Attendant to EMT, or EMT to AEMT and/or Paramedic through partnerships with various schools and Cuyahoga County. Our Tuition Exchange Program (TEP) alleviates the financial burden of furthering your education.
After a minimum of 8 months of employment at either Part-time or Full-time hours, you may qualify for these programs. During your coursework, you can transition to our education-friendly Modified Part-time status. Upon graduation and certification at your new level, you will complete our internal orientation and Field Training programs before entering a reimbursement period based on hours worked with the company. We also provide buy-out options for those seeking different career paths, although many choose to continue to work with us for the foreseeable future.
